Barbara Trimmer

Barbara L. Trimmer was born December 26, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio. She passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Barbara attended St. Ursula Academy, Kalamazoo College, and the University of Toledo. Her life was made complete when she married Frank Ayers on October 3, 1987. Theirs was a deep rooted love of mind and spirit. Frank will miss her in both their quiet moments at home as well as their amazing memories of travel which ultimately led them to finding their 'special' home in Ireland after they both retired. Barbara's love for travel brought her many places including Britain, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. She and Frank spent many years in Ireland forging friendships and establishing themselves firmly in the day to day life of Kenmare, in County Kerry. Her other great love was Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas. Her parents purchased a home there in 1972 and it became her 'special' place. Barbara was awe-inspired by the beauty of the island but even more impressed by the community in Hope Town and the resilience of the people who lived there. Barbara was a fierce friend and would be happy to call and make plans if only she could "find her phone." Anyone who had the privilege to be her friend knew that she was a great listener, genuine in her appreciation of you and interested in what you had to say. Barbara's poise, presence and graciousness were evident to all who knew her. Her wit, knowledge and humor seemed effortless. Her intelligence and knack for detail was demonstrated in her love for crosswords and trivia games. Barbara also was passionate about her solitude during which she could be found taking walks, working on a puzzle, watching rugby or British television. Barbara is survived by her adoring husband Frank Ayers and very dear friend Libby McClelland; sister Marilyn Trimmer (Scott Gregory); daughters Sarah Ayers and Lisa Comes; and grandchildren Carolyn Comes, Alexandra Comes, John Ross Comes, Emma Comes, and Jack Skinner. She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Barbara Trimmer. Barbara's family would like to thank the many friends that have reached out to the family. We would like to extend an invitation to any Toledo area friends to spend time with us on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 4-7 pm at the Toledo Club 235 14th St Suite 508, Toledo, OH 43604. This will be an informal gathering with light appetizers and beverages to share memories and honor the amazing life that Barabara led. Feel free to come anytime during the hours of 4pm - 7pm. Gatherings in Kenmare, Ireland and Hopetown, Elbow Cay Bahamas will be announced at a later date.
