Carl Richard Blaesing

On September 22, 2023, Carl Richard (Rick) Blaesing concluded his battle with colon cancer at age 72. Whether you knew him as Carl or Rick, all will agree that - like his surname, he was a blessing. A lifelong Toledoan, Carl attended Nathan Hale Elementary School where he met his future wife, Linda (Giblin) Blaesing, and lifelong friend, David Girkins. He attended DeVilbiss High School through his junior year and graduated from Start High School in 1969. He served in the Army National Guard from 1971 until 1977. Carl worked at Champion Spark Plug for 32 years, starting in the factory and later in Research and Development after he earned his Associate's Degree in Electrical & Electronic Technology from Owens Community College. Following Champion's closure, he put his general handyman skills and electrical background to work with a second career in the maintenance department at MCO/UTMC where he was in charge of fire code compliance. On February 12, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Giblin) Blaesing who was the love of his life. He truly lived out his vows to love her through sickness and health and was her caretaker through several bouts of cancer. They had three children together; Carl (Rick) Jr., Carrie, and Matt. Carl Sr. was a dedicated and involved father who coached his kids' t-ball teams and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He passed on his love of computers and electronic gadgets to both of his sons, and taught both of his boys and his son-in-law, Bryan, many general handyman skills. After his retirement in 2014, he joined The St. James Club through their Silver Sneakers program and made many new friends. His favorite thing to do during retirement was to spend time with his grandchildren; Carter Blaesing, Carlie Blaesing, Jaxon Dadey, Anderson Dadey, and Emerson Dadey. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Caryol Blaesing, his sisters Luann (Alan) Behnen, Janet Mauck, and brother David (Cassie) Blaesing. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; his children Carl/Rick (Melanie) Blaesing Jr., Carrie (Bryan) Dadey, and Matt (Jenna) Blaesing; his brothers George (Jeanne) Blaesing, and Mike (Cindy) Blaesing, many beloved nieces and nephews, his five grandchildren, and his little dog Lola. A special thanks to Dr.Tim Kasunic and all of the staff at Toledo Clinic Oncology for their diligent and empathetic care. Additionally, the entire family has deep gratitude for Al Leffler; without his daily assistance, Carl would never have been able to stay at home until his passing, which was his wish. The family will celebrate Carl's life at Strawberry Acres Park (950 S McCord Rd; Holland, Ohio) on Saturday, September 30th from 1:30-5:00 p.m., with a brief ceremony at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Victory Center, Toledo (3166 Republic Blvd N, Toledo, OH 43615) or St. Stephan's Lutheran Church; (7800 Erie St., Sylvania, Ohio 43560) in honor of Carl.
