Hannah Davis

Hannah Davis peacefully passed away October 2, 2023. Hannah Collins was born on April 5, 1927, the only child of Ores and Juanita Collins. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class in 1944. She graduated in 1947 from Marshall University in Huntington,West Virginia with a B.A. degree in Business Education and English. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi educational fraternity and Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority. Hannah met her loving husband, Eugene Davis, at Marshall University. They were married on November 26, 1947 in Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Lynbrook, Long Island, New York. They moved to Toledo in 1948, where her husband was employed by the Toledo Blade. She became employed at the National Headquarters of Owens Illinois and worked there until 1952, when she and her husband started their family. They are survived by their three children. Preceding her in death are her husband Eugene Davis of 66 years, her parents, Ores and Juanita Collins, sisters-in-law, Loraine Ross, and Anne Pytro: brothers-in -law Frank, Leo and Bill Davis. She is survived by her children, Jim (JD) Davis (Diana) of Toledo, Nancy Stevens (Tom) of Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, and Father Mark Davis, Pastor of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish in Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren, James Davis (Lily) of Denver, Colorado and Alexa (Juan) Barajas of Memphis, Tennessee; great-grandaughter Juniper Davis; and step-grandchildren, Julie, David and Chelsea Britton. After her children started school, Hannah enrolled at the University of Toledo to renew her teaching certificate. She loved school and was always eager to learn. She was a substitute teacher in the Toledo Public Schools and later taught at Mc Auley High School. She worked for two deans at the Medical College of Ohio in the early 70's before working at St John's Jesuit High School in 1978. She opened their Development Office and worked that position until 1982, helping organize their first dinner auction that became so popular in the area. Hannah loved people and volunteering. She led a very active life and felt that one always received more than you gave when volunteering. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish for 64 years, member of the Altar Rosary Society, served on Parish Council, taught religious education and was a Eucharistic Minister. Among her volunteering projects were, Aurora House, Toledo Museum of Art, President of St. John's Mothers Club, St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, Toledo Ballet Association and St. Francis Achievement School in the inner city. After their children were grown and her husband retired, they enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States. They never had an agenda, except for the final destination. They enjoyed stopping when there was a place of interest they wished to explore. Their annual trips to New York City and a vacation in Italy with their son Father Mark were most memorable. Hannah's family would like to thank Tim Phillips, CEO Swan Creek and all the caregivers for their dedicated, loving care they gave our mother every day. A special thank you to Gary and Tammie Simon for all the support they gave Hannah over the years and Dr. Markowicz and Bates for their excellent medical care for over 50 years. The family suggest tributes to the Eugene & Hannah Davis Scholarship at St. John's Jesuit High School or St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614 at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
