Sandra Gail Comes

Sandra G. Comes, 72, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 6, 2012. Sandy was born and grew up in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Charles and Dora Ross. She graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1957 and graduated from The University of Detroit in 1960 with a degree in dental hygiene. She moved to Toledo in 1962 when she married the love of her life, John A. Comes, whom she met on a blind date. Together, they lived in South Toledo where they raised their seven children. They were married for thirty three years until John's death in 1995. She has been a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for fifty years. Sandy was a dental hygienist and worked for more than thirty years for pediatric dentists, Drs. Pero and Glinka. Sandy devoted her life to her family and always put our needs ahead of her own. She was an exceptional cook, a talented seamstress, and when she needed to be, an accountant, hairstylist, handyman, interior decorator, gardener, referee, paramedic, and taxi driver, but above all, she was our source of unconditional love. In short, she was CEO of Comes, Inc. and she was very good at her job. She enjoyed being curled up with a good book, an occasional Stinger on the rocks, and traveling to new places, as much as she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Sandy was often asked, with seven children, “ Which one do you love the most”, and without missing a beat she would reply “Whichever one needs me the most.” She will be forever remembered and dearly missed by her children, Susan (Randy Mericle), Chris (Lisa), Julie (Steve)Stearns, John(Susan), Tony, Don, and Mike (Debbie) Comes, grandchildren, Carolyn, Allie, John Ross, and Emma Comes, Andy, Mike, Joey, and Tommy Stearns, Mathew and Brian Comes, Samantha and Mitchel Comes, Jack and Erin Comes, brothers in law Bill (Michele) Comes and James Comes, sister-in-law Mary Lou Adamshick, and special friend Wayne Klein. We would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful nurses and aides at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the excellent care they provided, and extend our most grateful thanks to Maria Love for the kind and tender care you gave our mom. God bless and save you Mom. Thanks for all you have done. We Love You! Family and friends are invited to visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43614 on Monday, January 9th from 1-8 pm where a tribute service will be held at 7:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 10th.. Private interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
