Christine "Chris" J. Brusoe

Christine "Chris" Julia Brusoe (née Schoen) died on April 8, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, her recent diagnosis of leukemia after being cancer free for 20 years leaves many missing her intentional friendship and thoughtful care. Chris was born on January 17, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Marian (Rettew) Schoen. The second youngest of eight siblings, Chris grew up taking many trips to her parents' cottage at Devil's Lake and spending summers at her father's campground in Pioneer, OH. Experiencing many difficulties in childhood helped develop Chris into the resilient woman we each loved. A 1971 graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Chris regularly spent time with several of her classmates in the last years of her life. A 1975 graduate of the University of Toledo, Chris taught junior high math and science for several years prior to becoming a mother. As a teenager, Chris met her husband, Tom, at her brother's wedding, as her dad and Tom's dad were childhood friends. Due to the geographical distance between them, Tom and Chris started their relationship by writing letters for five years before beginning to date in 1973. Married on June 26, 1976, they lived for two and a half years in Detroit before returning to the Toledo area where they raised their children. An avid shopper, Chris was known for finding the best deals and then generously and intentionally gifting her finds to those she loved. Chris was a member of Little Flower Parish where she faithfully attended Mass for decades. She enjoyed vacationing on cruises with Tom; spending time with her four children, their spouses, and 16 grandchildren; and socializing over lunch with friends. Chris is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Tom, and their four children: Jennifer (Tyson) Turner of Crestview, FL and their children (Caleb, Enoch, Titus, Noelle, Abigail, Tabitha, Wayne, Leah, Jennifer, and Magdalene); Juli (Jim) Seiwert of Whitehouse, OH and their children (Ashtyn, Tinley, Colton, and Logan); Andrew (Nicole) Brusoe of New Milford, CT and their children (Lucy and Penny); and Matthew (Lindsey) Brusoe of Perrysburg, OH. She is also survived by her four siblings Bob (Rita) Schoen, John (Connie) Schoen, Sandy (Tom) Sandlin, and Shelly (Jeff) Peer; her brother-in-law Bob Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who will cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian Schoen; her sisters Margie, Shirley, and Lynn (who Chris faithfully cared for during Lynn's prolonged illness); her nephew Bobby; and her nieces Mary Ellen and Nikki. Family and friends may gather at Coyle Funeral Home (1770 S Reynolds Rd, Toledo) on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Little Flower Parish (5522 Dorr St, Toledo) at 11:00am, with Fr. Jason Kahle officiating, and doors opening at 10:00am for visitation with family. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery (2224 Dorr St, Toledo).
