Dale Virginia Anderson

Dale V. Anderson, age 73, of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Henderson House in Toledo, Ohio after a courageous nine year battle with dementia. Dale was born on December 16, 1942 in Blue Island, Illinois, to parents Ralph and Virginia Henderson. She graduated from Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois and attended nursing school, later working as a dental hygienist. Dale married Ray Anderson in November of 1966 and they made their home in Munster, Indiana. In 2005, they built a home and moved to Valparaiso, Indiana. Dale was very active in her church by singing in the choir, leading bible study classes, traveling to Europe and participating in an Emmaus Walk. She was also very active at both the Hammond and Valparaiso YMCAs, participating in and leading aerobics classes as well as swimming several times a week. Dale was a member of the Calumet Striders Running Club, participating in numerous 5K races and placing first in her age group multiple times. Dale loved bike riding, walking, running, reading and spending time with her husband at the Indiana Dunes and out and about in Valparaiso. Dale was an animal lover and doted on Casey and CJ, her West Highland White Terriers, as well as her horse, Sonny. Dale became involved with the Exceptional Equestrians program for children with autism and enjoyed having them ride Sonny. Those who knew Dale well will also remember her for her love for the Chicago Cubs, singing, whistling and her infectious laugh and sense of humor. Dale was preceded in death by infant daughter, Paula Cheryl, her parents Ralph and Virginia and in-laws Arthur and Lillian Anderson. Dale is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ray, of Valparaiso and daughter Lori of Toledo, OH. Dale and Ray would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20th at First United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave., Hammond, Indiana, 46324, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dale’s memory to Hospice of Northwest Ohio (800 S. Detroit Ave. Toledo, OH 43609) or Henderson House (5719 Ryewyck Dr. Toledo, OH 43614).
