David Westmeyer, Sr

David Westmeyer Sr. went to be with the Lord after a battle with Mesothelioma on March 5, 2013 He was born June 28, 1940 to Louis and Mildred (Snyder) Westmeyer. David was the first of seven children; he grew up in the old South end in Darby district, and attended Immaculate Conception Parish and grade school. David spent his high school years at Central Catholic, St. Frances Di Sales and Libbey. After high school, David served in the United States Air Force, and then returned to Toledo to work alongside his father in their family Sohio gas station on Dorr and City Park. On Oct 1st 1960 he married his long time sweetheart, Peggy Whetton. In 1961, He followed his in-laws to Santa Cruz, CA where he worked for Stuart Engineering. Moving his family back to Toledo in 1965, he began working for Champion Spark Plug Company. He started out in the warehouse, moved to the tool room as a machinist and worked his way into the day supervisor position. David and Peggy raised their three children in the South End Acme Addition: Kelle, Terre, and David. In 1989, David and Peggy moved to South Carolina where he was employed at Tuffloy Industry for the next 11 years. They then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where David held a management position at TG Systems. In 2004, he moved to Maumee, Ohio. He loved nature and the outdoors where he walked his dog along the Maumee River twice a day. David was a wonderful, kind gentle spirit, his joy was his family. David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Peggy, daughters Kelle (Cary) Cox, Terre (Kevin) Kroeger and son Pastor David (Debbie) Westmeyer Jr. ; his beloved grandchildren Rena Carrizales, Sam Carrizales, Hannah Carrizales, Christian Kroeger, Eryn (Will) Cole, David III, Darian and Drew Westmeyer, and great-grandchildren Josie, Madeline and Atticus; step-grandchildren Taylor, Claire and Sam Cox. David also leaves behind siblings: Mike, Mark, Denny, Carol Tomes, Kathy Heartland and Rebecca Westmeyer Wright. His loss to all of us is immeasurable and we will cherish the wonderful times we had with him. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S Reynolds Rd on Sunday March 10, 2013 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 11, 2013 at Monclova Rd Baptist Church, 7819 Monclova Rd., Monclova Ohio 43542, at 11:00 am where the family will greet guests starting at 10:00 am. Interment will be private.
