Dennis John Jankowski

Dennis John Jankowski October 22, 1942 - October 07, 2008 Dennis J. Jankowski, 65 of Maumee, OH passed away peacefully on October 7, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family and friends who loved him dearly. Dennis was born on October 22, 1942 in Toledo, OH to Adam and Lillian (Ruthowski) Jankowski. His twin brother Daniel preceded him in death in 1981 at the young age of 39. Dennis attended St. Hedwig Grade School and Woodward High School where he graduated in 1961. Dennis was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life Sandra (Bell) on June 21, 1968 and they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past year. Dennis worked at Libbey Owens Ford for 33 years retiring in 2000. Since his retirement Dennis has worked at many part time jobs in the maintenance department with the most recent job being at New York Life Insurance Co. Dennis treasured his family very much and they took yearly family trips to Florida. He visited friends there including his best friend Mike Scott at the Villages and Becky and Joe Julian at Winter Haven. He loved shopping and visited all the flea markets he could. He collected logo golf balls and shot glasses that he kept on display. Dennis enjoyed playing golf with his LOF friends and will surely be missed because he was always the life of the party. Dennis is survived by his loving wife Sandra (Bell) Jankowski; children Becky (Steve) Grogg, Brian (Clarissa) Jankowski, and Karen (Dennis) Neiger; grandchildren, Missy, Tyler, Alex and Stephanie Grogg, Hannah and Benjamin Neiger, and Eric (Brenda) Schramm; brother James (Carol) Jankowski and sister Christine (Richard) Kusner; many nieces and nephews and his special nephews Thom Jankowski and Clinton Poca; mother-in-law Dorothy Bell; brothers-in-law Roger and Larry Bell and Don Poca; and sister-in-law Kathy Poca. Dennis was preceded in death by his twin brother Daniel; parents Adam and Lillian Jankowski; baby sister Cynthia; grandson Luke Anthony Neiger; and father-in-law Marion Bell. The family would like to thank Dennis' "special" friend Terry Gulch for being with Dennis through these last 4 difficult weeks of his life. They would also like to thank his nurse Matt from Hospice of Northwest Ohio and all the other special nurses that cared for him in their home. All were loving and supportive of him. Also a very special thank you which words couldn't even describe to Father Joe Steinbauer. Without him we couldn't have made it through Dennis' short illness. The family requests that memorial contributions for Dennis be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg.
