Douglas Alan Hancock, 75, went to his eternal rest on February 23, 2026 surrounded by his wife, daughters and grandchildren at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Doug was born in Toledo, Ohio to Donald and Doris Hancock on September 12, 1950. He was a graduate of Libbey High School and continued to connect with classmates and alumni throughout his life. He met his wife Rita C Mulford when they both worked at Burger King on Byrne Rd. in Toledo when they were both 18 years old. They were married on March 19, 1971, and they went on to share 55 years of life together with their 4 daughters. He was a devoted Lutheran and was very active with the church for much of his life. He was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion and dedicated a great portion of his life promoting and serving, making his way eventually to the rank of State Commander. He was committed to serving veterans and service members and served on the board of the veteran support service H.O.O.V.E.S. (Healing of our Veterans Equine Services) He was a fourth-generation carpenter who joined his father in the business and continued this work until his retirement. There were few things he couldn't do, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge or helping anyone in need. Doug was a storyteller. He never failed to have a story, anecdote, dad joke, or tale for anyone who would listen. He was also a prankster and never failed in the one-upping department. Above all, Doug was a devoted family man. He feared at times that his necessity to work long hours to support his family meant that he didn't devote enough time to his girls, but the opposite was true. He never failed to be present at family meals, events or milestones and could always be found in the stands or audience for sporting or musical events where he supported his girls with pride. He treated his sons-in-law as his own and served as father figure and mentor when needed. Doug is preceded in heaven by his parents Donald and Doris, parents-in-law Alice and Carl, sister-in-law Margaret, and brother-in-law Raymond. He is remembered by his devoted wife Rita; daughters Amy (Calvin), Lori (David), Lesley, and Lisa (George); grandchildren Ciara, Alyssa, Taylor, Drew, Lillian, Bryse, Hannah, and Melanie; great - grandchildren Natalie, Ayla, James, Jayden and Trentan; siblings Jeff (Becky), Debbie, and Craig (Carol); siblings-in-law Mary Lou (Barry), Dick, Larry, Tommy (Sandy), Doris (Sam), Danny (Joyce), Ruth, Karen (Darryl) and Keith (Cindy). Visitation will be held at Coyle Funeral Home at 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Monday, March 2nd from 4pm - 7pm. Services at Providence Lutheran Church at 8131 Airport Hwy. Holland, Ohio 43528 at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10 am. He will be laid to rest at Springfield Township Cemetery privately with immediate family.
