Edna Erle Greenbaum

Edna (Gilliam) Greenbaum, age 102, passed away on October 12, 2022. She was born on St. Patrick's Day, 1920 to Ray and Thelma Gilliam. Edna was a homemaker, loving wife and mother. Known as a "neat freak", everything had to be just so. She was a wonderful self-taught cook and was able to make all kinds of authentic ethnic and American dishes. Everything from her famous Matza Ball Soup and chopped liver to Italian spaghetti and meatballs and Chicken Paprikash. Her annual goose dinner, which was a birthday present to her husband Bernie, is featured in a Mary Alice Powell cookbook. Edna met the love of her life in early 1950 and after a few short months, was married and lived 52 beautiful years together. Everyone enjoyed watching them dance together, gliding across the dance floor as one. Bernie and Edna loved Big Band Music and other popular bands of that era. She raised her 3 children well and tried to make sure they experienced culture and education-everything from tap dance, band practice and team sports. The family enjoyed many vacations together thorough the 1960's and 70's including Hawaii, a dude ranch in Tucson, AZ, Washington D.C. and the New York World's Fair. After becoming empty nesters, they continued their trips and cruises with their close friends from the Epicurean Club. Edna was a big sports fan, rooting for the Cleveland (Indians) Guardians, the Browns, and her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she made God a big part of her and her family's life. Left behind to cherish her memory are her brother Edward Desmond Gilliam, sons Robin Greenbaum and Craig Allen; grandchildren Michelle Lorenzen (Peter Ehrling), Mark (Jane) Lorenzen, and Peter Leininger; 3 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard Greenbaum and daughter Patricia Rose. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Ceremony at 11:00 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Ave. Toledo. Entombment will be at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Elizabeth Scott Nursing Home Activities or the charity of the donor's choice.
