Edward J Wayton

Edward J. Wayton, 97 years of age, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023, surrounded by family and caretakers. He was born on May 26, 1925 in Rossford, Ohio to John and Josephine (Knurek) Wojton and was the youngest of 7. After graduating from Rossford High School, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Force as a WWIII Bombardier, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Many of his children and grandchildren have crawled through a B24 Bomber, as a result of his passion. As a lifelong learner, he took various college classes and was accomplished in at least six trades. He retired after many years as a Maintenance Supervisor at General Mills, after a period at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut. His life was guided by his deep faith and his love of family. At his core, he was humble, selfless, wise, logical, always calm, never complained and had a wicked sense of humor. Golf and the Buckeyes were his other passsions. In his last few years thanks to his friend, Dan Cutillo, he was able to tour the Woody Hayes Football Practice Facility and Fields. He met Coach Jim Tressel and Ryan Day to give them a few tips. Ed is survived by his wife, Pauline (Hendershott) Wayton, his children, June (Erwin) Effler, Rebecca (Lauren) Huddleston, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Wayton, Sean (Barbara) Wayton and Erik (Kimberly) Wayton; his step-children, Bill (Rhonda) Hendershott, Mark Hendershott, Lisa (Steve) Vary and Patrick Hendershott; 17 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Barbara Wayton and his grandson, Taylor Huddleston, as well as his parents and siblings. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his caregiver, Connie, the wonderful staff at Ohio Living Hospice and Maumee Pointe Assisting Living, especially Sam and Stephanie. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Sunday, January 29 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. where a Sharing of Memories will take place at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 30 beginning at 10:00 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 104 W. Broadway, Maumee, OH 43537, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery concluding with Military Honors.
