Frank C. "Sonny" Hesselbart

Our beloved Frank "Sonny" Hesselbart left us peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sonny was many things to many people -- a devoted partner, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and a loyal friend. He made every room a little brighter. And, he had a way of making everyone around him feel seen, valued and loved. Sonny's kindness was effortless, his wisdom hard-earned and generously shared, and his quiet strength was the kind that holds a family together without ever asking for recognition. He lived his life with intention and purpose - and he never stopped encouraging those around him to do the same. Sonny would say, "Find your purpose. Live it fully, and Live it well." Even in his final days, he embodied this very message with grace, strength and dignity, facing what came with the same quiet courage that defined his entire life. He did not just advise us how to live - he showed us. Sonny was born curious, and he channeled his passions in everything he did and everything he touched. This was evidenced by his strong work ethic and his successful career in engineering and business. That same drive and technical acumen also contributed to others in unique ways - be it through meticulous instruction and coaching he gave to aspiring golfers (amateur and professional alike), or through the countless hours he spent to help friends and family tackle any electrical, plumbing or household challenge that came their way. Sonny was our light, and the world feels a little dimmer without him in it. But the warmth he gave so freely, and that wisdom he leaves behind, lives on in each of us who were lucky enough to call him ours. May we honor him by doing exactly what he asked - living with purpose, treating people with kindness and making every moment count. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43614.
