Glenn Norman Raitz

Glenn Norman Raitz passed away at his home in Toledo, Ohio on June 22, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born in his family home in South Toledo to Edwin and Norma Raitz. He graduated from Libby High School in 1949, where he played football and baseball. It was just after high school that he met his sweetheart and future wife Evelyn Walzack. They were married on February 23, 1952, one year into his service in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, Glenn worked in the Pentagon preparing documents for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was in President Eisenhower’s color guard during his Inauguration. After Glenn was honorably discharged in 1954 as a Sergeant, he and Evie settled down in Toledo, Ohio. Glenn pursued his Juris Doctorate through the University of Toledo, which he received with the class of 1963. Glenn was a partner in two Toledo law firms. He then continued his career as First National Bank of Toledo’s Senior Trust Officer and Corporate Secretary. After his term as trust officer, he continued to practice law until he retired in his early seventies. Glenn was an active member of the Toledo community. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Board of Directors of the Toledo Area Governmental Research Association (TAGRA), Monclova Township Board of Zoning Appeals, Toledo Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Board of Directors of the Ohio and Michigan Paper Company, and a founding member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Before law school, Glenn played Toledo Federation Baseball. Later he went on to coach his son’s little league baseball teams. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, skiing, watching sports and reading fiction novels. Late in life, Glenn love to spend time with his “lunch gang” friends, his children and grandchildren. He was often found sitting on his deck under his oak tree enjoying a “5 O’clock cocktail”. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, parents; brothers Edward (Kia WWII), James and Keith. He is survived by his children, Sheryl, Rebecca (Paul), John (Erin), Robert (Danielle); Step Children Hollie and Heather; Grandchildren Caila, Jacob, Faith, Riley, Sydney, Taylor, Ava and Ryan. His surviving siblings include Paul Raitz (Nancy), Shirley Vogelsang, Norma Gibbons, Carol Meek; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Monday, June 26 from 3-8 p.m. The funeral will begin at Coyle at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, followed by Mass at St. Joan of Arc at 10. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
