James K. Laduc

Jim was born on August 6, 1936 to James and Gertrude LaDuc in Rutland, Vermont and was welcomed into Heaven on December 15, 2013. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He leaves behind a cousin, Patricia Haddock, living in New York. Jim was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and was an Army Veteran. He was employed at Columbia Gas, the Lucas County Auditor’s office and the Lucas County Court House. In his youth Jim was very active in the Toledo Council of Catholic Young Adults, where he made many friends while serving in leadership roles such as President and Social Chairman. In T.C.C.Y.A. he performed leading roles in a number of musicals and one-act plays. Jim was a gifted singer; he was known to break into singing “The Impossible Dream” at any time or place in his big, booming, unforgettable voice. His talent made him a valuable member of The Jerry Francis Singers. One standout aspect of Jim’s personality that endeared him to everyone was his tremendous sense of humor--guaranteed to brighten anyone’s day. Jim’s Catholic faith was very important to him, and as an active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Jim was an usher and a server at weekend Masses, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Finance Council and the Stewardship Committee. He was fondly referred to as “The Bishop” by his friends. He was memorable to anyone who attended the Church’s Fish Fry during Lent. His boisterous hospitality brought smiles to all as he served hundreds of patrons each week. Jim was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and there, as everywhere else, he easily made friends. As Jim’s physical health deteriorated, he was very grateful to his neighbors and friends who were always ready and willing to give him a hand or a ride, Kim, Debby & Karen. Friends may visit at Coyle Funeral Home on Monday, December 22, 2013 from 4:30-7:00 p.m., with a Scripture service at 6:30. All memorial contributions should be made out to Coyle Funeral Home and will go towards Jim’s funeral arrangements. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
