James H. Price

James H. Price January 22, 1917 - October 29, 2008 A gentle, kind man of strong character and solid work ethic who was lovingly devoted to his family, showed compassion for others and during his later years, when challenged by a multitude of physical limitations, never gave up fighting for his personal independence with ingenuity and a sense of humor. James H. Price, age 91, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2008 at Sunset Village Retirement Center, where he and his wife, Dorothy, have called "home" for the past 6 years. Jim graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Civil Engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Seabees in the Alaskan 32nd Naval Construction Battalion. During the Korean War he was commissioned to Washington, D.C. where he achieved the rank of Lt. Commander. Jim was a 35 -year employee of Owens-Illinois; beginning his career as a Civil Engineer and retiring as Vice President of Research and Development, Closure Division. Dad was a lifetime Kiwanis member, a Habitat for Humanity volunteer regional co-ordinator of 25 years and served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, Maumee, Ohio for many years. Jim was an avid golfer! He and Dorothy enjoyed 21 years of retirement in Sarasota, Florida amongst many wonderful friends. Most importantly, Dad was a devoted father and husband. Having lost his parents at the age of 16, Jim and Dorothy's children were his treasured possession. Jim's legacy of compassion and courage lives on in the hearts' of those who loved him so dearly. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; three daughters and son-in-laws; Sheryl & Mike Magee of Chicago, Phyllis & Bob Brinkerhoff of Calgary, Alberta Canada, Betty Jo & Dr. Andrew Casabianca of Toledo, and six grandchildren; Katy Magee, Brinna, Betsy & Bonnie Brinkerhoff, and Nicolas and Peter Casabianca. He is predeceased by his two brothers; Robert and William Price. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and residents at Sunset Village for their exceptional personal care and friendship.
