Jane Howe O'Shea

Jane Howe O’Shea, age 95 of Waterville, OH, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born to Stanley and Dorothy (Howe) Stachowski on September 17, 1923. She was a 1941 graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Marygrove College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Social Work and her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Toledo. She spent her career with Toledo Public Schools as a teacher at Harvard Elementary and then as an Administrator with both the North and South Office of Pupil Personnel. She had many memberships that she was very proud of which included: St. Joseph’s Maumee Rosary and Altar Society, Board member and Past President of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, past member of Delta Kappa Gamma, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Toledo Zoo, Toledo Art Museum and the Beyond Grief Group. Jane’s life revolved around her 3 boys and their respective families. She exuded unconditional love, quick to offer praise and encouragement but was never afraid to sternly correct unwanted behavior with the eyes of a person who you knew was not going to ask twice. She was a selfless, caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She attended countless athletic events and extra-curricular activities of her children and grandchildren, well into her 90’s. She enjoyed playing cards each Saturday night at the Maumee Elks with her close friends, Mary Lou Fortney, Carolyn Berg, Phyllis Schoenfelt, Elsie Bellner, Linda Hopkins and Florence Steinem. After church on Sunday, she could always be found spending the afternoon playing cards and enjoying quiet conversation with her cousin and friend Rose Bader and Dottie Mahoney. Jane was also an avid and voracious reader and loved to travel. She was preceded in death by Thomas O’Shea and Robert Tyukody; her parents; daughter-in-law, Carol Gottschalk O’Shea, her cousin and best friend, Gladys Baker, Jim and Barbara Boggs. Jane is survived by her 3 sons, Thomas (Mary), Dr. Michael (Patricia), Dennis O’Shea and step-daughter Dusty Ann Tyukody; 11 grandchildren, Erin (Jesse) Spier, Michael (Kari) O’Shea, Kevin (Kristin) O’Shea, Megan (Jeff) Mooney, Bryan (Christina) O’Shea, Susan O’Shea, Timothy (Brooke) O’Shea, Ryan (Olivia) O’Shea, Kathryn (Michael) Feaster, Kenneth and Shelly Gottschalk, 18 great-grandchildren, and long-time friend and colleague, Becky Ansted Mihans. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Sunday, December 16th from 2-7 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be recited at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17th beginning at 10 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church Maumee at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Church Maumee, Notre Dame Academy, or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
