Janice Gertrude Holzemer

Janice G. Holzemer, 79, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2017 at Perrysburg Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 23, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to Lamar W. and Grace E. (Focht) Zinser. Jan graduated from Sylvania Burnham High School, St. Vincent School of Nursing and Mary Manse College. She worked as a surgical nurse for Drs. John Kelleher and Jim Sullivan. She was very proud of her 48 hour “Call of Duty” in 1959 when a tanker truck explosion on the Anthony Wayne Trail left several city firefighters severely injured. The following year, Jan, the surgical nurses and Drs. worked tirelessly on the Cal-Poly football team airplane crash victims. Jan had a passion for helping the elderly, and worked at The Glanzman Nursing Home. She spent 30 years at the Toledo Hospital, finishing her career with the “Ask A Nurse” phone service. Jan loved playing golf at Heatherdowns Country Club, scoring a hole in one on #16. She was an avid Bridge player, enjoying her friends and conversation. But the cornerstone of Jan’s life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Faith, Family and Friends defined her. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jim Holzemer, her sons Mark (Dena) and Matthew (Beth), her daughter Amy (Stewart) Jones; grandchildren Rachel (Mitch) Mielcarek, James, Joshua, Jacob and Nicole Holzemer, Chelsey (Drew) White, Zachary and Cassandra Jones; great grandchildren Laila and Joe Mielcarek, Macy and Keira White. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Helen Teetrick. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Thursday, February 16 from 2-8 p.m. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 17 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee. Interment will be private. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Toledo Hospital, Flower Hospital, Elizabeth Scott Rehab Center and Hospice of Northwest Oho, Perrysburg for their compassionate care.
