Judith Ann Keller

Judy (Schlagheck) Keller, 88 years old of Toledo, Ohio, passed peacefully into eternal life on Holy Saturday, April 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends. With a deep and abiding faith, Judy was ready to meet Jesus and looked forward to being welcomed into heaven by Him, her beloved husband Virgil, her parents, and all those who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: Martin T. Keller of Sunny Isles, Florida; Monica J. Keller of Toledo, Ohio; and Maureen J. Meyer of Simpsonville, South Carolina. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kristen Carter, Angelica Long (Arya), Francis Keller, Peter Michael Rancatore, Jessica Rancatore, Augustine Rancatore, and Reagan and Mackenzie Meyer, and a cherished great-grandmother of Gabriel Carter and Carter Long. Judy's life was a beautiful reflection of her love for God, her family, and her community. She remained active in her faith and attended church regularly until earlier this year, when her health limited attending mass in person. Judy was a graduate of St Ursula Academy and earned her Bachelor's degree from Mary Manse College. She began her career as a teacher at Blessed Sacrament in the 1950s but then devoted herself to raising her family. After her children were grown, Judy found joy in helping others as a travel consultant with AAA for 25 years, delighting in planning memorable trips for families. She retired in 2005 to spend more time with her grandchildren, who were among her greatest joys. Judy had many passions, including reading, painting, and gardening. She was a frequent visitor to the Holland Branch Library and an active member of its book club. Judy majored in art in college and for many years, created her family's Christmas cards by hand, sharing her artistic gifts with those she loved. She especially enjoyed traveling with family including cruises, vacations to all 50 states in their motor home, hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and visits to family in South Carolina and Florida-places that brought her great happiness. She also walked at the mall for over 15 years, where she built many wonderful friendships. Following a stroke in 2024, Judy found camaraderie and enjoyed time spent with others, who had also experienced a stroke, at The Stroke Life Center of Toledo. She attended weekly meetings, aquatic therapy, physical therapy, monthly dinners at local restaurants, and various activities/get-togethers for all stroke survivors and their caregivers. A lifelong servant to others, Judy was deeply involved in her community. Judy and Virg were charter members of Regina Coeli parish and were very active in a variety of services including Marriage Encounter and Altar & Rosary Society. In the 1970s, she served on the founding board of the Feed Your Neighbor program when it was introduced to Toledo, a mission that continues to serve those in need today. She was honored as one of the Outstanding Young Women of Toledo by the Junior Jaycees for her dedication to helping the underprivileged. Her family home was always a place of generosity, where food, clothing, and gifts were shared with others. After moving to South Toledo in 2003, Judy became a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Hill Avenue. There, she served in the hospitality kitchen, helping provide hot meals and groceries to those in need. She was also a member of the Daughters of Mary and previously served with the Christ Child Society of Toledo, St. Francis de Sales High School Mothers Club, St. Ursula Academy Mothers Club, Central Catholic Mothers Club, St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, Riverside Hospital Auxiliary, and the Lutheran Home/Mercy Auxiliary in Williston, Ohio, the latter three all where Virgil had worked. Above all, Judy cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and creating lasting memories with them. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Avery Schlagheck; her husband, Virgil Keller; her infant daughter, Maureen Keller; her grandsons, Peter Michael Rancatore and Augustine Thomas Rancatore; daughter-in-law, Joyce Keller; and son-in-law, Chad Meyer. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 6149 Hill Avenue, Toledo, on Saturday May 2, 2026 beginning at 8:00 a.m., with the Rosary to be prayed at 10:30. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon immediately afterward from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy's life.
