Kathleen Mary Flynn

Kathleen Mary Flynn (née Breen), 78, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, and friend passed away unexpectedly on October 30, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by her husband and four sons. Kathy was legendary for her kindness, tenderness, generosity, and capacity to love. She adored-and was adored by-her family, and she travelled the globe to be with her itinerant sons. She also touched countless lives from Detroit, Michigan, where she was born, to Toledo, Ohio, where she lived most of her adult life, and to Savannah, Georgia, where she spent her final year with her husband and two of her sons. Kathy is survived by her husband, James Flynn, with whom she was married for nearly 55 years; her four sons, James Jr., Michael (Inmaculada Barcia), Matthew (Ana Palacios), and Patrick (Maggie Flanagan) Flynn; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Micah, Lucas, Nina, Wylder, Clare, and Maya; and her sister Betty Desmond and brother Michael Breen. She is also cherished by her numerous nieces and nephews and their children, who knew her as "Aunt Grandma." Kathy was preceded in death by her father, John Breen, and mother, Margaret Breen (née Feldman). Kathy worked as a nurse for nearly three decades, retiring from St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio, in 2006. Her profession suited her nature as she had a very special gift for compassion, an innate ability to provide a soothing word or gesture to those she encountered. Kathy also had an incredibly festive spirit shared most especially with her husband --they were always the last to leave the dance floor-but also with all those around her. She loved to laugh. No one who encountered Kathy was left unmoved by the meeting. A devout Catholic, Kathy volunteered at schools, shelters, and charities throughout Toledo. She created enduring friendships in book, zoo, bridge, and garden clubs. When they learned of Kathy's death, her sons' friends and her nieces and nephews all expressed a similar theme: Kathy Flynn was mom to us all. The depth of her loss is incalculable. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, Oh on Sunday, November 6 from 1:00- 5:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at Coyle on Monday, November 7 at 9:30, followed by Mass at St. Joan of Arc at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
