Leslie Joseph Meiers Jr

Leslie Joseph Meiers Jr., age 76, a lifelong resident of Toledo Ohio, passed away on Saturday December 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family in St Luke’s Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Les was born on August 21, 1938 to Leslie and Marion (Pinkelman) Meiers Sr. in Toledo Ohio; he was the oldest of six children. Les attended Central Catholic High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation. He received his basic training on Paris Island, South Carolina and honorably served his country with great pride. Upon his discharge, Les returned to Toledo and married the love of his life, the former Joyce Bialecki; they were married on July 26, 1958 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 1, 2012. Les spent the majority of his career as a Firefighter and Paramedic for the Toledo Fire Department, retiring in 1989 after 25 years on the force. Les was known as “Stanley” to his co-workers and was the cook in the firehouse during his shift. He enjoyed telling stories to his family of his days on the job and spending time with his fellow retired firefighter brothers. Les and Joyce had for many years taken in children from St. Anthony’s Villa and gave them their love. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Les was a loving, caring and religious man. He and Joyce enjoyed spending their time together, traveling and gathering with family and friends. Les was very active in his grandchildren’s lives and will be remembered by them as “Pops”. He also liked hunting, enjoyed fishing trips, gardening and being in the outdoors. Les was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joyce, son Leslie III, son-in-law David Bruchhauser and brother Frederick Meiers. He is survived by daughters Sherri (Joe) Mossing, Michele Bruchhauser; grandchildren Eric (Neena) Mossing, Kristi, Scott, Kevin Mossing, Brianna and Ian Bruchhauser. Les is also survived by his sister Kathy (Fred) Gibbs and brothers Raymond (Ellen), Theodore and Richard Meiers. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S Reynolds 00 pm. Rd; on Wednesday December 17, 2014 from 2-8 pm where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 pm followed by the Last Alarm at 7: Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Thursday December 18, 2014 at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be in the form of a contribution to Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund.
