Margaret Mary Crippen

Aunt Margaret, as she was known to her family and many nieces and nephews went home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior October 26th 2014. Margaret was born to Nora (Koester) and Harold Crippen on December 18, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio where she lived her whole life. She attended St. James Catholic grade school and graduated from her beloved Central Catholic High School in 1942. Margaret attended Tri-State University where she earned a degree in accounting. She was the head accountant for the former Newell B. Newton Co. for 7 years. Margaret proceeded to work at Doehler Jarvis where she worked in accounts receivable for 31 years and then moved to accounts payable for 6 additional years before retiring in 1987. She was part of the Doehler Jarvis Retired People. Aunt Margaret was known for her skill in knitting and all the nieces and nephews were recipients of her finely crafted hats, warm mittens and lovely afghans. Many a lucky church raffle winner was also gifted with these fine creations. She was an avid photographer as her many scrapbooks have proved as she chronicled her life as well as ours. Margaret took unfailing care of both her parents as they aged. The hallmark of Margaret’s life was her wholehearted devotion to her Catholic faith as it sustained and comforted her throughout her life. Margaret attended daily Mass for most of her life and was a member of St. James Catholic Church and former treasurer of the Rosary Altar Society there. She was most recently a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where she was part of the “Morning Glories” church ladies that attended daily mass and shared fellowship with them. She was absolutely ecstatic over the 90th birthday party they threw for her last year. Margaret was generous beyond measure and fulfilled any need her parishes had no matter how great or small. She supported numerous charities and educated a seminarian through her generosity. Margaret is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Nora and Harold, her brothers Bernard, Norbert, Cyril and Bill. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Hospice of Norwest Ohio. A huge, heartfelt appreciation goes to her many dear friends at OLPH especially Colette, Mary, and Pat who picked her up for Mass and took her to doctor appointments as well as being true friends. The body will lie in state at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove, Toledo, OH 43614 where a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m., and the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. this Saturday, November 1st. The final resting place will be St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Hillsdale, MI.
