Margaret Mary "Greta" Barrett

Margaret Mary “Greta” Barrett, 84, entered into eternal life on May 22, 2017 at her home in Perrysburg, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Greta is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dennis K. Barrett; children, Kelly (Bob) Johnson, Devin (Dana) Barrett, Kerry (Dave) Devers, Colleen Sager, Shannon Barrett and Connell Barrett; siblings, Dick Purcell, Tom (Rosemary) Purcell and Colleen Purcell; and grandchildren, Ryan, Mariah, Shannon Jr., Erin, Riley, Delaney and Mason. Greta is preceded in death by her parents, Richard T. Purcell and Margaret Mary Purcell. Greta was born on July Fourth, 1932 in Troy, New York. She graduated from Catholic Central High School, in Troy, and from St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing, in Albany, N.Y. Greta and Dennis married on February 4, 1956 and were blessed with six children. She is remembered as a loving, devoted wife, nurturing mother, doting grandmother and caring sister. “All she wanted was to give her family love,” her sister Colleen said. Greta worked as a registered nurse at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, and at the Anne Grady Center, Toledo, Ohio. She was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, and she taught C.C.D. at St. Rose School. She once said, “If I could just get those kids closer to who Jesus really is, their lives would be better.” Her paternal grandparents came from County Carlow, in Ireland, and Greta was very proud of her Irish heritage. The family would like to offer special thanks to her caregiver Jill Hart for all the tenderness she showed Greta, and to Kathy, Susan, Rose, David and Lisa of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church (saintroseonline.org) or to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio (hospicenwo.org) Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo. There will be a Scripture Service and a Sharing of Memories at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin in the mortuary at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27 with the funeral mass at 9 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 215 E.
