Marguerite Sherman Jacobs

Marguerite L. Jacobs, age 91, of Maumee, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 12, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at home. Marguerite was born on May 24, 1920 to Clarence and Eva (Leadman) Sherman in Caledonia, OH. She grew up on an 88 acre farm. She loved to spend time with her Dad and Mom on the farm where her passion for gardening began as a little girl and continued throughout her life. Marge, as her friends called her, loved to play basketball as a teenager at Whetstone High School, where she graduated from in 1938. She attended her 50th reunion at Whetstone and had kept in contact with many of her high school classmates during the years. She worked at the Spitzer building for many years and retired in 1966. She was married to the love of her life in 1938, Marvin J. Jacobs, Sr. for 47 years until he passed away in 1985. Marguerite and Marvin were a blessing to all who knew them. They were devout Catholics who raised three children, Marvin “Jake” Jr., Edward, and Barbara. They are now once again reunited in heaven holding hands and smiling. She was a member of St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Parish for more than 50 years and enjoyed the seniors club and taking trips with the church. She was a devout Catholic, had a great love for God and lived her life faithfully to serve Him, as an example to all. Marge had a passion for animals especially Boston Terriers, one of which was her long time companion, Boots. Marguerite enjoyed sewing, reading, baking, gardening, going for walks, and doing puzzles, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to California to visit family as well as many other memorable trips with her son, Jake. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin J. Jacobs, Sr., son, Marvin “Jake” Jacobs, Jr., brother, Kenneth Sherman, sister, Mary Jean Smith, sisters-in-law, Loretta Jacobs Tucholski, Ellen Jane Jacobs Graham. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Edward (Geraldine) Jacobs, Rowland Heights, CA, daughter, Barbara Jacobs, Toledo, sister, June Martin, Mt. Olive, IL, granddaughters Tamara (Phillip) Ezakovich, Maumee,OH , and Julie (Joe) Thomas, Manteca, CA, grandson, Gregory (Lisa) Jacobs, Murrieta, CA, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 12 step great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be recited at 7 p.m. The funeral begins in the mortuary Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass at St. Patricks of Heatherdowns at 10 a.m. . Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Marguerite’s family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care.
