Mary Jacqueline Oaks Lyell - passed away in Toledo, OH on September 10, 2023. Jacqueline "Jackie" is survived by her loving and devoted children, son, Peter Diedrich Lyell (wife Kathleen) and daughter, Penny Sue Lyell VanBuskirk; as well as thirteen grandchildren, many of whom grew up spending amazing summers at "Grandma Camp": Amanda Sue Shaw (Chris Shaw), Zachary VanBuskirk, Samantha VanBuskirk Jones (Jason Jones), Andrea VanBuskirk (Evan Thames), Nicholas VanBuskirk, Nathaniel Lyell, Samuel Lyell (Rachael Lyell), Johnny Lyell, Emily Lyell(David Lenz), Jessica Mielcarek(Nicholas Mielcarek), Annie Lyell, Michael Lyell(Amanda Lyell), Lindsay Love(Josh Love); and twenty nine great grandchildren: Ethan, Max, Makayla, Zachary, Jason, Jayden J., Joey, Jayden M., Leah, Lily, Livy, Nash, Tonio, Aubrey, Naomi, Eevie, Nick, Bryson, Rylee, Johnny, Jaxon, Addisyn, Xander, Julian, Peyton, Grayson, Lucas, Delilah, and Josie; and her siblings, Roberta Karen Oaks Dankoski (husband Pat), Daniel Edward Oaks, Sr. (wife Kerry), Marguerite Bridget Oaks Keil (husband Steven); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Thomas "Tom" Lyell; and sons, Paul Thomas Lyell and Phillip Allen Lyell, as well as her parents, Norman Edward Oaks and Mary Jane Leonard Oaks; sister, Judith Ann Oaks Koehl, and brother, David Charles Oaks. Jackie was born April 21, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio, the eldest child of Norman and Mary Jane Oaks. She grew up in Reynolds Corners and attended Maumee High School where she enjoyed cheerleading, competed in synchronized swimming and earned a full ride scholarship to Ball State University. Jackie met Tom Lyell while vacationing in Michigan and they were married in 1957, remaining together for 46 years before his passing in 2003. Jackie was a wonderful wife, devoted mother and grandmother, ever-dependable big sister, and a loyal and genuine friend who was passionately involved in her family, neighborhood, church and community. She served on the council at Epiphany Lutheran Church and worked as an aide at Rogers High School from 1978 to 1984. Her many talents as an artist, seamstress, and baker were enjoyed by all who knew her. She assumed the role of Oaks family matriarch and historian when her mother passed in 1982 and was enthusiastic about the family genealogy long before it became fashionable. To that end, she and husband Tom hosted several of the extended family reunions that were enjoyed by family near and far. Jackie touched so very many hearts with her zeal for life and she will be dearly missed by us all. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30am on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio followed by a 12:00pm funeral service at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 N. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be private.
