Maxine Ruth Gilley

Maxine Ruth Gilley, 91, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2016 while surrounded by her family. The Gilley family has truly lost a rare treasure. Maxine was born to Jack and Edna Spoerl on October 21, 1924 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Maxine was an active, hard-working, loving, and friendly lady. She was always there for her family and was positively active in their lives. She was the bookkeeper for husband Bob’s painting business and office manager for Damrauer Psychological Services. Later, Maxine and Bob operated two taverns: Brother Bakers in Maumee and Neighborhood Inn at Reynolds Corners. Both endeavors were successful because they projected a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. A family tradition was always Christmas Eve at mom’s decorative and festive home. Her infamous potato salads, roasted turkeys, and turkey stuffings were the best. Max enjoyed her summer weekends at their cottage at Devils Lake. Her friends and her children’s friends were always welcome. Many still remark today of the good times they enjoyed at the lake. Many of her children’s friends have continued to attend her birthday and holiday celebrations. Max was an avid card player. She was skilled at most card games, but was particularly “lucky” at euchre. The big card game in the sky awaits her. Maxine is survived by son Bob (Barbara) Gilley, daughter Dr. Beverly Damrauer, granddaughter Kim (Darrell) Blausey, grandsons Jeff (Beth) and Brent (Sandy) Gilley, six great-grandchildren: Jenna and Samantha Blausey, Lexi, Talan, Connor and Madelyn Gilley, sister Donna (Gene) Schwind, and sister-in-law Phyllis Spoerl. Maxine was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert C. Gilley, special son-in-law Joe Damrauer, brother John J. Spoerl, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dorothy and John Brunke and friend Bart Mather. Maxine’s family would like to thank Deacon Bob and Father Keith, St. Joseph Parish, Maumee, for their thoughtful visits, prayers, and guidance through this difficult time. Dr. Timmothy Mattison for his compassion and care; Patsy Rubel for her loving care, kindness, and friendship; Anne, Angie, Amy and Victoria from Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their caring professional treatment; and daughter Beverly, for her non-waivering love and devotion. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Sunday, March 13, 2016, from 3-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 104 W. Broadway, Maumee, OH 43537 at 10 a.m. where the family will begin receiving guests at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
