Paul Louis Chappuies

Paul Louis Chappuies, of Toledo Ohio, passed on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 88, at Otterbein Sunset Village Senior Life Community in Sylvania, OH. Anyone who knew Paul would agree that he was a special man. His love, kindness, wit and charm made him beloved by all. The world lost a good one in Paul. His impact as a husband, father, grandpa, uncle, brother, friend, neighbor, colleague, mentor and servant of Christ was enormous and will live on through everyone who was lucky enough to have known and loved him. He was born on September 18, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio. In 1958, Paul married the love of his life Rosemarie Danko. There was little doubt that he loved Rosemarie. They were married for 65 years and parented 8 children (6 sons and 2 daughters). Mark (Diana Kerr-Brown) Chappuies, Martin (Lori Kolasinski) Chappuies, Stephen (Constance McHugh) Chappuies, Thomas (Jodi Stoner) Chappuies, Patrick (Dawn Feldkamp) Chappuies, Lisa Chappuies, Matthew (Holly Henline) Chappuies, Amanda (P. Taylor) Vaughan. Paul loved nothing more than spending time with his 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Paul graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic and then began his career at SOHIO/ BP Refinery until retirement in 2000 after over 30 years of service. Paul was a member of St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns in Toledo Ohio where he was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His interests and hobbies were abundant. Paul loved to travel and explore. He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading about military history. His creative talents shined vividly through his stained glass masterpieces and woodworking projects. Paul enjoyed fine cigars and a good glass of Makers Mark. He also loved sweets, wine, jazz and classical music. He was fond of playing cards, especially Euchre with anyone who would sit at the table. He enjoyed building model ships and planes. He loved storytelling and good conversation near the fireplace. It can be said that Paul enjoyed many things, but the thing he enjoyed most was "people" . He loved people and his love for his wife Rosemarie was inspiring to us all. He was truly a good man who worked hard for us all. His giggle "tee-hee-hee" was contagious and his spontaneity and gregarious nature put everyone at ease. Paul, Hubby, Dad, Papa Paul, Grandpa, Uncle Paul, Brother, Friend, Acquaintance: YOU will be missed and we thank you for being such an incredible part of our lives. Please rest now and one day we will all meet up and laugh again! He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis William Chappuies and Clara Chappuies Biniakiewicz; brothers, Lawrence Chappuies Coker, James Lee Chappuies. The family wishes to thank the staff at Otterbein Sunset Village Senior Life Community and Otterbein Ashanti Hospice and Palliative Care for their care of Paul. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 22nd, at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio from 2:00-7:00 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo Ohio, 43614. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery at 5725 Hill Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. A luncheon will follow back at the Holy Family Center at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church. (The service will also be live streamed for those unable to attend in person.)
