Raymond "Ray" L. Foreman

A beautiful life came to an end early in the morning February 17, 2025 when Ray Foreman lost his final battle with Cancer. In the last week of life Ray expressed his thoughts saying "I am 88 years old and I have had a wonderful life. I appreciate the opportunity to live a full life" To Ray, the most important thing was family. Ray and his wife Sara "Dusty" (Bryant) Foreman were very close and had a special relationship that lasted 64 years, 10 months and 17 days. Their time spent together was memorable and exciting. He was so proud of his loving family; Children Renee Foreman of Perrysburg, Ohio; Brad Foreman and Judy (Schoenborn) Foreman of Loveland, Ohio; Grandchildren Andrea (Foreman) Litten and Kevin Litten of Dayton, Ohio; Melissa Foreman and Carlos Warren of Cincinnati, Ohio; And six great grandchildren Anthony, Eli, Romello, and Kamilah Warren, along with Jack and Max Litten; His brother Robert Foreman and Sister-in-law April (Newby) Foreman of Southport, North Carolina; Brother-in-law Don Scheerer of Bucyrus, Ohio; Nephews Jeff Sheerer of Bucyrus, Ohio; Todd Foreman of Southport, North Carolina; Nieces Tammy (Sheerer) Doyle of Bucyrus, Ohio; Kelli (Foreman) Fleming of Raleigh, North Carolina. Ray is predeceased by parents Allen Foreman, Twila (Kisor) Foreman and sister Nancy Scheerer. In addition, he was fond of all pets including the company of his most recently deceased cat, Peyton. Ray valued the numerous friendships he made throughout his life time, including friends from Bucyrus, Maumee, and Stone Oak. Ray took advantage of the travel opportunities that life offered him. He especially liked spending time at their Siesta Key, Florida home and he looked forward to their yearly weeklong jaunt in Key West. Ray also traveled throughout Europe, the USA, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Panama, and cruising the Caribbean. He was a sports enthusiast as a player, coach, and spectator. The main sports were football and golf. He supported The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Cleveland Browns and was known for providing ad hoc play-by-play coaching analysis during games. You could hear him say "Did you see how well that defensive back contained to the play inside, or great coverage" or "you dummy, that's a goofed-up effort". Ray played golf throughout his lifetime and competed in many golf events with his old pals at Stone Oak CC. Ray was born in Bucyrus, Ohio February 1, 1937 and spent his childhood and formative years there. He attended Bucyrus High School and became a celebrated athlete as a starting football player his sophomore year and continued success lettering in 4 sports his senior year along with receiving the Michael Trophy as the top football player. Following high school, he attended BGSU. Being unsure of his career decision he enlisted in the Army, where he was trained as a medic in the 82nd Airborne Division. While there, Ray performed parachute jumps and to this day his parachutist log along with various mementos can be found in the family home military display. After the Army, he returned to his academic pursuits at BGSU, then transferred to Ohio State graduating with a major degree in Science Education and a minor in Physical Education. There he had the opportunity to take a class from Woody Hayes. Back to Bucyrus, Ray taught and coached at the High School. During that time, he was fortunate to receive two National Science Foundation Awards for teachers allowing him to attend North Carolina State for a Summer of Study, and an academic year study at the University of North Carolina. Rays' family all spent the time with him in Carolina. He had a sabbatical from teaching for that year, returning to Bucyrus to teach and coach. During this time, he served as the Science Dept. Chairman and coached the 1970 football team that was undefeated and acclaimed as one of the tops in the State. After a few years he decided to leave the teaching profession and became involved in business ending up as a General Manager of a Distribution Co. in Cleveland and then Indianapolis. In 1973, Ray had the opportunity to return to teaching and coaching at Maumee High School. For the next 25 years he taught science and coached football and tennis at Maumee High School. He served several years as the Science Dept. Chairman. Being known as "Coach Foreman" was his highlight. As a spare-time activity, he and several other Maumee teachers got a thrill out of charter bus driving for vacationers and professional sports teams over much of the United States. Ray retired from Maumee High School in 1998 and remained active with golf and traveling. He enjoyed his summers at Stone Oak CC golfing with friends and winters in Siesta Key, Florida. It was a busy and wonderful and beautiful blessed life! Family and Friends may visit at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio on Thursday, Feb 27th 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb.28, followed by a luncheon at Stone Oak CC. Those wishing to give a memorial in Ray's name, are asked to give to the Cherry Street Mission, Toledo Humane Society or to a charity of their choice.
