Raymond Joseph Taylor

Raymond Joseph Taylor, age 85, long time resident of south Toledo, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on September 13, 1928 to Theodore J. and Marcella (Spentoff) Taylor. He graduated from Macomber High School, where he was a member of the drum corps. In 1950, he married June Marie Nadeau, and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage together. Ray was a member of the Sheet Metal workers union, and started employment as a sheet metal worker. He quickly moved into the position of Estimator/Project Manager in the HVAC industry. In his early years, Ray enjoyed photography and developed his own pictures. He enjoyed music, traveling and cruises with his wife, and loved watching the Detroit Tigers Baseball games. Ray was always in attendance at his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an amazing handyman and woodworker, even building his own boat with his father in law, which the family enjoyed on Lake Erie. He was an avid fisherman, and treasured the summers with his large family at their cottage on Sand Beach, where many fish fries and card parties took place. Ray was a great example of a devoted and loving husband and father. He taught his kids and grandkids the art of treating people kindly, and being selfless. He is survived by his children Steven (Diana), Richard (Cheryl), Jean Marie (Ernest) Cottrell, Susan (Mick Pickvet) Marcis, Gerald (Suzanne) Taylor, and Mary Pat (Rick Vaughn) Priest; 16 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Jack E. (Pat), Don (Bev), and Edward Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June, his brothers Norman, Leonard, Theodore, and sisters Dorothy, Mary Alice, Roseann and Marcella. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home on Friday, January 17, from 2-8 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7. Funeral services will begin Saturday, January 18, 9:15 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10. Father Doug Taylor, Ray’s nephew, will preside.
