Robert Charles Krueger

Robert “Bob” Krueger bravely fought an 8-month battle with esophageal cancer and continued to enjoy his family, friends and life while doing so. He passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Toledo at the age of 60 surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He was born to Robert and Jeanette Krueger on April 29, 1951 in Berea, OH. and had his Mom’s twinkling blue eyes. He attended grade school at St. Richards Catholic School, went to St. Edwards High School in Cleveland on a basketball scholarship and graduated from North Olmsted High School. Bob began working at age 14 at Danny Boys Farm Market in North Olmsted. He worked at UPS in Cleveland and continued advancing his career until he decided to follow his passion for sports and obtained his USPTA tennis teaching credentials. He began playing professional tennis at a young age and had a 25-year record of achievement as a tennis professional, managing club operations, organizing CYO and parks programs to introduce kids to tennis, and coaching top level tennis programs at clubs in Cleveland and Toledo. Proud accomplishments include 1991 and ‘92 USPTA Midwest Coach of the Year, 1992 USPTA National High School Coach of the Year, 1999 USTA Midwest section Cap Leighton Award for services in the tennis industry and his players winning 3 Ohio High School Individual State Championships. He was the St. John’s Jesuit High School Tennis Coach from 1989-2004 and Notre Dame Academy Tennis Coach from 2001-2006. He was on staff at Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club since 2004. In 2008 he began culinary school to pursue his love of cooking and started “Tennis Pro To Go”, a private business catering cook-outs and tennis events. Bob’s interests included camping in his motor home, cruising on his Goldwing motorcycle and anything to do with cooking and grilling. He was a “hands-on” volunteer with Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He touched the lives of many families through coaching, and people of all ages called him their friend. His warm smile and infectious laugh will be missed. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 7-years Dawn R. Krueger; son: Kory Krueger; daughter Devon Krueger and their mother Susan Krueger; brother, Tom (Angie) Krueger; Dad, Ronald Kiessling; Aunt, Betty Koptis; cousin, LouAnn Hamilton; stepsister, Beth (Bob) Boltz; stepbrothers, Christopher (Christine) Kiessling and David (Becky) Kiessling; Father and Mother-in-law, William and Marlene O’Connell; brother-in-law, William (Elizabeth) O’Connell III; sisters in law, Maureen O’Connell and Colleen (Daniel) McDevitt; nieces and nephews, Kayleigh, Madeline, Josette, Cecelia, Jack and Ryan. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Chuck Koptis. Family and friends are invited to visit from 2-8 pm, Monday, August 29th at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. where a vigil service will be held at 7pm. Funeral services will begin at the mortuary at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 30, then will proceed to Maumee St. Joseph Catholic Church for the 11am funeral mass. Burial services will be held privately. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Maumee St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bob’s family would like to thank Dr. David Brown and the staff at the Toledo Cancer Center for their personal and compassionate care.
