Robert L. Kertesz, Sr.

When a good man dies, many are left to grieve. Robert L. Kertesz, Sr. was such a man. He went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2012. He was born to Stephen and Barbara Kertesz on May 16, 1938. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He then spent his career working as a Sheet Metal worker for Local 6/33 where he was a member for 52 years. Bob was an artist and he called his metal art “Scrapture.” He was a member of the Lake Erie British Car Club. Bob and Cathy worked together for many years on a team for TEC and Pre-Cana. Bob’s calling for the last 15 years was the ministry at Little Flower’s St. Vincent de Paul where he served as President. In January 2012, he received St. Vincent de Paul’s prestigious “Top Hat” award. In 2008, Bob and his troupe were inducted into the Hungarian Hall of Fame for their continued efforts to keep the traditional Hungarian Betlehem es’ Christmas play alive. He performed in this play since 1952 at St. Stephen’s midnight mass. Bob and his soul mate, Cathy, celebrated 50 full years of marriage. Cathy will cherish the thousands of happy memories and precious moments that took their breath away. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Helen, Steve, Fritz, Joe, Bill, Betty and Andy. His memory will be cherished by loving wife, Cathy; children, Carolyn (James) Schmitz, Robert Kertesz Jr., Julie (Jack) Roehl, Matthew (Anna) Kertesz; grandchildren, James, Josh, Jeremy Schmitz, Lindsay Black, John, Mary Cat, Maddie, Lance, Max, Cam, Sami Roehl and Zoe Kertesz. Also brother, John (Grace) Kertesz and special friends, Jim and Kathy Bayer and Fr. Joe Steinbauer. Family and friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at Little Flower Church, 5522 Dorr St. Toledo Ohio 43615, at 10:30 a.m. where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will; follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to Little Flower’s St. Vincent de Paul or the Karmanos Cancer Research Institute.
