Thomas Smith Brittain Thomas S. Brittain, born May 19, 1930, in South Bend, Indiana to Ann E. Elli and Thomas S. Brittain, passed from this life into the next on August 16, 2017. Tom originally married Joanne A. Buss who predeceased him, and they had four children Linda, Richard (Drina), Lee and Kathleen who survive. His second marriage is to Eileen T. Coressel, who survives. Tom was always an industrious person who had strong work ethics, as his working career began in 1941: Triangle Grocery, Toledo Blade Route, M & M Drug Store, Toledo Club, C.R. Bunt Pharmacy, B.R. Baker Clothier, LaSalle & Koch, National Container Corp.-Accountant; University of Cincinnati and University of Toledo-night student, Doehler Jarvis-Cost Estimator, Mather Spring-Factory Payroll, Toledo Scale-Management Trainee, Owens Corning Fiberglas Accountant and Retiree of 32 years of faithful service. Tom’s commitment to organizations and social reasonability’s began in 1942; Boy Scouts of America, Civil Air Patrol, Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters International, President Blessed Sacrament CCD School Board, Assistant Scout Master-DeVeaux School Troup 35, President and Co-Founder FISH OF TOLEDO- an ecumenical group of people who help people in need, Junior Achievement Advisor, Board member and Treasurer of United Central Services- an umbrella community service agency, Manager of the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, Little Sisters of the Poor-Advisory Board Building Campaign, Monclova Master Plan, Minister of the World (Lector) at various Catholic Churches, Board Member and Treasurer Casandra Ballet, President, Treasurer, Activities Chairman and impresario of entertainment for numerous Christmas dinners and lunches for the Owens Corning Retirees Club. Tom was grateful for the opportunities to volunteer for community service and to call upon his various work experiences. It was a lifelong education which could not be purchased. He impressed upon his children a good work ethic: “for it is a privilege to work.” In all of life, Tom learned one thing which is paramount, love Father God with every fiber of your being and never offend God who loves us eternally and enjoys being with us every day of our lives. Tom was very lucky to have a wonderful life with Eileen and in having four children and two unique grandchildren, Dylan (Lynette), Daniel (Sasha) and two great grandchildren Mykah and Charlotte. Tom had an aesthetic appreciation of life, which enabled him to enjoy the Arts and Sciences, in particular romantic classical music. He also authored a book of poetry; LOVE IS FOREVER. In addition, he was very keen on portrait photography and enjoyed the challenge. Friends and acquaintances are invited to visit from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, August 21 at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 22, with an hour of visitation beginning at 10:00. Internment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Please make contributions to Mercy College Foundation, in memory of Fr. Patrick Hussey.
