Timothy W. Etue

Timothy W. Etue, age 71, died on Saturday, March 15, at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Tim was born on October 30, 1942, in Toledo to Joseph and Helen Fern (Mossing) Etue. He attended St. Ann’s School and was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He graduated from St. Meinrad Seminary in 1964. He proudly served his country for six years in the U.S. Coast Guard. Tim was the first Director of Catholic Big Brothers and Big Sisters in the Diocese of Toledo. It was in that organization that he met Anne Marie Heintschel and they were married on May 4,1968. Together they raised four children in Toledo and their beloved Wamplers Lake in the beautiful Irish Hills of Michigan. Tim was a man of very strong faith and trust in God. It was that faith and trust along with his “two thumbs-up” approach to life that helped him through any struggles in life. Tim was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Toledo and would have celebrated twenty-five years of ordination in May. He was so proud to serve as a Deacon in the Church. He ministered at St. Martin de Porres, Immaculate Conception and St. Pius X Parishes. He loved his work with marriage enrichment programs and preparing engaged couples for marriage. He was thrilled to accompany persons with disabilities on a trip to Rome in 1992 where the group met Pope John Paul II. Tim taught junior high at schools at St. Patrick’s Parish (Bryan, OH), St. Francis de Sales Parish and St. Adalbert’s Parish in Toledo. He was a vocational counselor and Assistant Area Manager for Ohio Rehabilitation Commission for thirty years, retiring in 2001. Tim was the go-to guy for family, friends and even people he had not yet met , always helping with electrical, plumbing (not a favorite), mowing and handyman work. He gave of himself to everyone who needed him. Tim is survived by his wife of almost forty-six years, Anne Marie (Heintschel); children, Jennifer (Vijay) Menon, Tim (Mary Vitte), Jeffrey and Amy (Mark) Hass. He is also survived by his much-loved grandchildren, Lauren Downey, Sam, Nick and Jack Etue, Matthew and Ryan Menon (who he did silly things with) and Eli Kiser; brothers, Larry (Ann), Joe (Kay), Dan and his life-long friend, Tom Carone. Tim was preceded in death by his parents. Tim will lie in state at St. Pius X Church (2950 Ilger) on Thursday, March 20, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. A Vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 21, at St. Pius X Church. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Meinrad Abbey or St. Pius X Parish.
