Ursula (Mary) M. Elchert

Mary Elchert, 96, passed away peacefully at home Friday, August 9th, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 29, 1917 in Rossford, she was the only child of the late Stephan and Stella Kotowski. A lifetime area resident, Mary was a graduate of Perrysburg High School and Davis Business College. In her early years, Mary worked for Owens Illinois, where she met her future husband, Gerald Elchert. They were married in 1945. They were married 32 years before his untimely death in 1977. Mary was a long time volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital and also a member of St. Luke’s Auxiliary – Team 2. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved to travel and was an avid reader. She was a parishioner at St. Joan of Arc Church and also a Gold Star Mother. Mary will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Wray, with whom she made her home these past 9 years and her three grandsons, Brandon Wray (Kerry) of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Kevin Wray of Houston, Texas, and Brett Wray (Shayla) of Dayton, Ohio – currently deployed in Kuwait, great-grandchildren Joshua Mink and Katherine Wray of Shaker Heights, Ohio, a wonderful extended family – brothers-in-law Richard Elchert (Monica) Nuremberg, Germany, Fred Elchert (Anna), New Riegel, Ohio, Richard Walters, Tiffin, Ohio, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Jimmy, a casualty of the Vietnam War. Family and Friends will be welcomed Tuesday, August 13th from 2-8 pm at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 pm. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday, August 14th at 9:30 am in the mortuary followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Luke’s Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Heartfelt thanks to Mary’s wonderful caregivers who made it possible for her to remain in her home during this extended illness: Jessica, Tiffany, Rachel, Jenny, Sherry, Nikki and especially Pat Sahadi. We will be forever grateful for the loving care you provided.
