Wilma Mary Schwind

Wilma Mary (Keil) Schwind, age 87, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio with her daughters at her side. She was born August 4, 1929 to Edward and Theresa (Haupricht) Keil in Toledo. She was a graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School. She retired from JCPenney in 1988 where she worked first in Credit and Layaway and later switchboard and invoicing, finally executive assistant to the Store Manager. On April 15th, 1950 she married the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Schwind. Wilma was a lifetime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and always involved in many church and school group activities. Wilma was a social person volunteering her time to many organizations such as Mended Hearts Chapter 100 and Toledo Hospital Cardiac floor. She made over 5000 “Huggie” pillows for cardiac patients and visited them to encourage their recovery having undergone many heart procedures herself. Wilma was always looking for a new outlet for her creative donations and made over 300 pillowcases for Little Sisters of the Poor, Sunshine and Toledo Seagate Foodbank. Wilma and Jerry loved traveling especially to California to visit her sister, sometimes on the spur of the moment. They also enjoyed playing Euchre and other card games. Though board games were not Wilma’s favorite she could often be found sitting on the floor with her grandkids playing games or working puzzles. They loved to golf and were both members of South Toledo Golf Club. After only a few lessons Wilma got a Hold-In-One – 93 yard par 3 with a driver. She caught all of it. Wilma had a generous soul and always reminded her children, “You can never out give the Lord.” She was always a positive person, never one to complain about her issues. In recent years if you asked how she was doing, she would say, “Walking, talking.” She was thankful to “be the Mom” to her five kids and never burden others with her challenges. After Jerry died in 2008, Wilma kept busy shopping and going to the movies and continued to volunteer her time. In 2014 she moved to Ohio Living Swan Creek Independent Apartments, made many new friends and enjoyed Bingo night, Movie night, Euchre, and Puzzles in the lobby. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and husband and daughter Karen (Mike) McLaughlin. Also brothers Edward, Lloyd, Robert, Daniel, Paul, and David Keil. Surviving are her sons Edward (Christine) Schwind and Jeffrey Schwind; daughters Susan (John) Samberg and Amy (Jerome) Biblewski. Grandchildren Katie (Becky) Schwind, Adam (Katie) Schwind, Michael Schwind, Jason (Kate) Samberg, and Michael Samberg. Great-Grandchildren Ashley Sherlund and Thomas Schwind, Maria Schwind, Olivia and Claire Samberg, Aiden, Austin, and Ainsley Samberg. Wilma is also survived by siblings James (Mary) Keil and Bernice Tate. The family wishes to thank Wilma’s “team” of doctors who took such good care of her all her years. Also thanks to the entire Staff at Ohio Living Swan Creek, especially the dining staff who always watched out for her allergies and the security staff who were so quick to help her whenever she needed them.. Thanks to the nurses and aids at Ohio Living Swan Creek Rehab and those at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Friends and family may visit at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 South Reynolds Road, Toledo on Friday, January 13th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm where a rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church on Saturday, January 14th at 10:00am located at 1842 Airport Hwy, Toledo. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Charles Borromeo, Ohio Living Swan Creek or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
