Berthold Michael Goetz

Berthold Michael Goetz left this earth on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, to join the love of his life, his wife Elisabeth. He was born on February 2, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio to Bert and Anna Goetz. Bert married Elisabeth Frangella on September 7, 1942 in Shelby, Ohio. After serving in the Army during World War II, they moved to Toledo and were the parents of Beth (Ed) Patrilla, Michael (Susan) and Billy (Peggy). They were the proud grandparents of Jennifer Bee (Eddie), Tony, Andy, Brian, Marty and Maria Patrilla, Tad (Cathy), Nick (Stacey), Dan (Lisa), Michael Goetz and Melissa (Terry) Miller. Bert also enjoyed those special moments that he was able to spend with his precious great-grandchildren Zachary and Ryan Bee, Lynde Selders, Lucy, Frances and Rose Goetz, Seth Miller, Alyssa Goetz and Cole Saunders. Bert is also survived by his siblings JoAnn Rogers, Bill Goetz, Judy (Wayne) Bodette. Although to some, Bert might have appeared as only a brother in law to Elisabeth’s family, he was considered a brother to Jim Frangella (Shelby, OH) Stella Sutter (Mansfield, OH), Margaret Kleinhenz (Maryland), Mary (Jim) Keil (Illinois) Rose Grace Frangella (Shelby, OH), and Frances Long (Toledo, OH). Bert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Elisabeth, brother Tom Goetz, sisters-in-law, Rose Frangella, Barbara Goetz, Sister Teresa Frangella DSMDP, Nellie Frangella and brothers-in-law Ray Frangella, Eugene Long, Dr. Henry Kleinhenz and Robert Sutter. After moving to Toledo in 1953, Bert was employed by Modern Tools (LOF) until his retirement in 1989. During his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and was simply infatuated with magic tricks. His grandchildren especially enjoyed it when Grandpa took a dinner napkin from the table and transformed it into a little mouse that would crawl up his arm. Being an avid Notre Dame fan kept Bert busy on the weekends watching his team either on TV or in South Bend, Indiana. After retirement he became an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, downtown serving as a Lector. Friends and family may visit on Friday May 28, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH. The Funeral will begin at 9:15 Saturday morning at the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, downtown at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, downtown.
