Craig B. Cousino

Craig Browning Cousino passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2015 in his home at Sunshine in Maumee, Ohio. He lived 57 years made full by his extended Sunshine family and loving family. Craig was born in Toledo Hospital on March 10, 1958 to Ralph Emmett Cousino and Carolyn Steinhauer Cousino. Craig has now joined his loving father and step-mother Betty Jean with our Lord in Heaven. He is survived by his mother, brother Brent (Pam), sister Suzanne Whitaker (David), nephews Will and Neal Cousino and niece Juliet Whitaker. His life was lived with many challenges from Tuberous Sclerosis, yet he befriended and won the hearts of all who met him. His strong spirit and fondness for relationships made him one that was appreciated and loved. Craig showed his appreciation for those around him by his warm touch, a big smile, or a shout of joy. He had the good fortune to participate in many outings with his Sunshine family, including trips to the Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye games and most recently the Lights Before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo. Craig fought the valiant fight for all his years, not letting his disability prevent his enjoyment of life. Yet in the last year and a half, the side effects of his Tuberous Sclerosis intensified. His last week was spent in the home he loved in the care of true angels of this earth – the team supporting the Castle home at Sunshine. He and his family are eternally grateful for the faith inspired love and care led by his home manager, Carrie Steward, and nurse, Pam Rafferty. They and countless other members of the Sunshine family went far above and beyond the call of duty to make his last days comfortable and peaceful. One can only imagine what successes Craig would have achieved without his disability. His father was an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur who helped grow a successful family business, assisted with pioneering patents in the eight-track music industry, and ultimately enjoyed a 25 year career with Capitol Records in Hollywood culminating with the position of VP of technology for the entire EMI Worldwide organization. His mother was a devoted teacher in the Toledo Public Schools for 30 years and his brother started a consulting business inspired by Craig and Sunshine to support providers of services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This business, now part of Plante Moran, serves clients throughout Ohio and the U.S. A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held on January 14 from 4-7 p.m. at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd.
