George P. Keen

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our “Superman,” George P. Keen, 68, who died peacefully on June 9, 2014 with his niece Sandy by his side. Born August 25, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Edward and Margaret (Houppert) Keen, George was spirited, had an encyclopedic memory, sparkling blue eyes and a radiant smile. He graduated from Woodward High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Despite our sorrow to lose him here on Earth, we are grateful George is no longer suffering. We can hear his giddy laughter and envision his joyful bright eyes as he is welcomed by God and reunited with his parents, siblings and family who went before him. George didn’t get to experience the same kind of life as many of us, due to lifelong health issues. Now is his time to be lifted from those limitations and enjoy eternal life in heaven through his faith, which he held dear. George is survived by his brother Edward (Valerie) Keen and his niece and guardian Sandy (Mike) Riddle. George loved children and it brought him great joy to be an uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Edward Keen; sisters, Joan Buchler and Carol Klute; brothers, James and Robert Keen; and brother-in-laws, Herman Buchler and Nelson Klute. We would like to express sincere gratitude to Debra Keogh, George’s advocate. Her love, kindness and friendship were a blessing we will cherish forever. Also, we are thankful for the staff of the Merit House who cared for George, especially Shirley, Lisa, Jason, Ty and Kim. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Thursday, June 12 from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Friday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Joan of Arc at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Those wishing to donate in memory of George may give to the Disabled American Veterans.
