Heather Lynn Engel

On Saturday, February 27, 2016, Heather passed away in Columbus, OH. Heather was born on July 31, 1976. Heather is survived by her parents, John and Ginny Engel; Aunt Donna (Chuck) Barry of Missouri; Aunt Sue Engel of Toledo; Uncle James (Gina) Engel and their children Sean, Austin, and Eyob of Massachusetts; cousin Kim (Tony) Hurtig and their children Heidi and Andy of Kansas; cousin Dan (Kathy) Held and their children Hannah and Mason of Arkansas. In addition, her passing has left many wonderful friends who gave her love, support, and prayers. She left her most loved dog, Sophie. Heather graduated in 1994 from Sylvania Southview High School where she was involved in speech and debate, choir, cross country, and various school plays. She also volunteered to work in a school office. Heather graduated in 1998 from Bowling Green State University where she majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Environmental Science and in Meteorology. She also was a member of a service sorority. Heather had three great loves weather, children, and dogs, and not necessarily in that order. She felt fortunate to have an opportunity to fill in and work with Blizzard Bill Spencer on TV either doing the weather report alone or helping out in the field when there was severe weather. The family wishes to thank him for the opportunities that he gave her. She loved doing weather. She recently was invited to be a presenter at a symposium for weather spotters at The Ohio State University. Heather loved children, and they gravitated to her. She always gave them unconditional love and encouragement. Her love of all our family dogs and her dog was evident for all her knew her. Heather is preceded in death by her brother, Tim; her grandparents, John and Caroline Wall and Arvine and Rose Engel, along with all of their siblings. Life presented Heather with many health challenges. However, we are sure that she is now in the care of God and that she is surrounded by children and at peace. Many hearts are hurting. John and I wish to thank her many friends who helped her and helped us. A special thank you is given to long-time friends, James, Roshne, and Sarah. You were always there for her and for us. Bless you. Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Joan of Arc, 5856 Heatherdowns Boulevard, Toledo, Ohio. Our wish is that friends and family will meet starting at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc for a time of sharing thoughts and love for Heather. A Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at this church. Internment of Heather’s ashes will be a private family affair at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to a no-kill animal shelter.
