Joan Louise Neuser

Joan O'Dwyer Neuser peacefully passed on to the fullness of life on September 22, 2021. Born February 18, 1923, Joan was welcomed into the family of Catherine and Leo O'Dwyer. She and her twin sister, Patricia, and their older sister, Margaret Mary, grew up in the shadows of their Alma Maters, St. Ann's (now St. Martin de Porres) and Notre Dame Academy. It was here that their faith was nurtured and many life- long friendships were formed. In her senior year at Notre Dame Academy, Joan received the Bishop's Cross, a recognition presented to one student for demonstrating leadership in reflecting the Gospels and Christian values acquired through years of Catholic education. Joan went on to live a life of loving service to her family, her Church, her friends, and her community. She and her late husband, Paul Neuser, raised their six children in the Rosary Cathedral parish and Old West End neighborhood. Joan served Rosary Cathedral Parish and School for many years as Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education and Christian Formation Ministries and as School Secretary for thirty years. After her retirement she volunteered in the Rosary Cathedral Pre-school program and for Heartbeat of Toledo. In 2009 Joan received The Central City Ministry Service Award for her long-time commitment and contribution to Catholic education and to the children of the central city. Joan was a member and past president of the Notre Dame Academy Alumnae Association. She was a member of the Ursuline Associate Program and a founding member of Bethany House. Joan never wavered in her loyalty as a Detroit Tiger Fan. At the age of 84, she and son, Mark, attended the Tigers/Yankees game that began at 11:06 p.m. after a four hour rain delay, ending in overtime at 3:30 a.m.! Joan returned home around 5:30 a.m., staying up to set the chapel altar at Rosary Cathedral in preparation for the 7:00 a.m. Mass. Joan enjoyed creating pressed flower stationary for others, attending spiritual retreats, and loved family gatherings, especially picnicking and walking along the shores of Lake Erie. Joan is survived by her children, Ann Lederer, Therese (Rich Roman) Neuser, Kathleen Holmes, Carol (Phil) Toney, Mark Neuser, Mary (Jerry) Wilson. Joan is survived by grandchildren, Gabriel (Nicole) Percival, Lia Colapietro, Kristina (Jeff) Jones, Philip (Kristen Lee) Lederer, Cullen (Lindsay) Colapietro, Jesse Percival, Aislinn (Andy Grier) Colapietro, Nicholas (Lauren) Wilson, Kevan (Anna) Toney, Michael Wilson, Casey Toney, step grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Couling and Jeremy (Caleigh) Toney and 25 great grandchildren. Joan was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Margaret Mary O'Dwyer, and Patricia O'Dwyer Danford, her son in law Al Lederer, and grandson in law Sam Misiura. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S Reynolds Rd on Friday October 8, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m at Our Lady, Queen Of The Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, Ohio, 43610. Interment services will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
