Mary Anne Young

After a slow decline, at the end of a life well lived, Mary Anne Young went to join her husband and parents in heaven on October 28, 2023. She was born in Toledo on June 1, 1943 to Raymond Schultz and Mary (Ball) Schultz. Mary Anne grew up in Toledo's South End, and graduated from Libbey High School In 1961. At Libbey, she met the love of her life, her husband, James Young. She married him in Toledo, and followed him up and down the Eastern Seaboard as he served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman for twenty years. She began her working life as a secretary for a trucking company, then a medical secretary, and worked her way up to office manager of several offsite facilities For Summa Health systems in Akron. Along the way she also served as staff at the North East Ohio University's College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) and a connected family practice center. She had her only child Kurt at the age of 25. She loved raising him, and helping others with their children. She made sure to spoil her son, nieces and nephews, friend's children and her two grandchildren before leaving us. Mary Anne was one who modeled Christian love and service, having helped out the families of her husband's shipmates as an ombudsman, helping out worthy causes using her talents and money when she could. She helped out friends and neighbors in need, often anonymously. She is survived by her son, Kurt Young, daughter-in-law, Cheri Holdridge, and loving grandchildren, Rebecca, and James; along with too many beloved nieces and nephews to name, her brother, Bob, and loving brothers and sisters in law. Mary Anne's family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford at Levis Commons and Hospice of NW Ohio who provided her excellent care at the end of her life. Those wishing to pay their respects in person can attend a visitation, held at Coyle Funeral Home 1770 S. Reynolds Rd, Toledo on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Coyle Funeral Home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to organizations fighting to protect and maintain a woman's right to choose in Ohio, or The Toledo School for The Arts, which was attended by both of her grandchildren and whose productions she loved attending for years.
